Last day of filming for our new short documentary about Montreal-based experimental tattoo artist Emilie Roby.

Final whirlwind shoot for new documentary film: with 1 Ryan Randall, 1 Red Epic, a tight 3-day shoot schedule, 4000km driving, 1 snowstorm, a bonfire, and 3 moose sausages!

I had an amazing time at the 2012 TIFF Talent Lab, especially highlighted by final and surprise guest Michael Haneke! No words to express how humbled and inspired I am by the experience. Thank you to the TIFF organizers and my fellow 2012 Labbers.

Great news! ‘A Rock And A Hard Place‘ (my current documentary film) received a LIFT Production Support Grant. Congratulations to all the 2012 recipients. Thank you to the Jury Members. A special thank you goes to LIFT for their generous and continued support of local, independent filmmaking.

About the grant: ‘In an effort to foster independent filmmaking, LIFT has made up to $16,000 in equipment credits available to eligible General and Production members. The funds are intended for production or post-production purposes. A single project can receive a maximum of $2,000 in equipment credits. Filmmakers at all levels of experience are welcome to apply.’

Exciting News! I’m off to participate in the 2012 TIFF Talent Lab (Sep 5-8, 2012). Congratulations to my fellow 2012 Labbers! I look forward to working with a truly talented group of filmmakers.

‘Now in its ninth year, Talent Lab is an intensive four-day artistic development programme that provides emerging talent with an unparalleled opportunity to learn from the world’s best film artists.

Using the Festival’s outstanding relationships with acclaimed filmmakers, Talent Lab leads participants in group discussions on a range of topics focused on the artistic side of filmmaking, sharpening the skills and confidence of a new generation of filmmakers.

Talent Lab is led by four esteemed governors who mentor the participants, guiding them through the sessions with guest speakers. Two of this year’s confirmed governors include producer Stephen Woolley (Great Expectations, The Crying Game, Interview with a Vampire) and documentary filmmaker Jennifer Baichwal (Manufactured Landscapes, Act of God).’

Behind the scenes filming a gold pour on location in the refinery at Goldcorp Inc’s Red Lake Gold Mines, Canada’s largest gold mining operation and one of the richest gold mines in the world. It took going through airport-like security and then a five camera set up to document the pour. Kudos to our amazing doc crew, Producer Lynne Kamm, Director of Photography Ryan Randall and Sound Recordist Sean van Delft.

Behind the scenes on location at Rubicon Minerals Corporation’s Phoenix Gold Project, a gold mine operation in the advanced exploration stages situated just outside of Red Lake, ON.
